Volunteers


The Foundation Fighting Blindness and Kansas City VisionWalk rely on Volunteers throughout the entire walk planning process.

Before the walk, volunteers assist us with securing sponsorship and in-kind donations, serve on the VisionWalk Fundraising Committee, and captain family or corporate walk teams. If you are interested in helping us out in one of these areas, give the Event Manager, Steve Sroka, a call at (847) 680-0100 or e-mail at SSroka@FightBlindness.org.  We can use your help throughout the year, at any level of time you can give to us! 

On Walk Day, everything from hanging up signs to greeting collecting registration forms is a great help.  Volunteers are needed from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

Here are our Walk Day needs:

  • St. Louis - VolunteersSet Up - Unload and distribute supplies to designated areas, hang banners and signs, and set up tables, chairs, etc.

    If you are interested in being a Crew Captain for any of these crews or would like more information on volunteering, contact Steve Sroka, Events Manager, at (847) 680-0100.

  • Registration - Check in walkers, collect pledge envelopes, answer questions (this position allows time to participate in the walk).

  • Refreshments - Help secure donations, coordinate pick-up/delivery, set up supplies, prepare and serve refreshments, keep area clean.

  • Volunteer Tent - Check in registered volunteers, distribute t-shirts to volunteers and hold onto lost and found items (this position allows time to participate in the walk).

  • T-Shirt Tent - Set up area, distribute T-shirts, clean up area (this position allows time to participate in the walk).

  • Traffic Control - Hang directional signs, direct cars to parking spaces, direct walkers and volunteers to site, answer questions.

  • St. Louis - Volunteers2KidZone Activities - Help watch/monitor the children’s activities & ensure all are having safe fun (this position allows time to participate in the walk).

  • Mission Tent - Set up Foundation Fighting Blindness literature table, break down tables, answer questions.

  • Take down - Assist with general ground maintenance: ensure site is clean, empty trash etc.
