Leah Bartos, Mrs. New York America 2012, to serve as Honorary Chair of the 6th Annual New York City VisionWalk
Leah Bartos, Mrs. New York America 2012, has stepped into the role of Honorary Chair for the 6th Annual New York City VisionWalk taking place on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Central Park Bandshell.
Mrs. New York was eager to take on the role of both Honorary Chair and VisionWalk Team Captain because of her personal connection to blindness and her desire to help the Foundation Fighting Blindness provide preventions, treatments, and cures for retinal degenerative diseases. Growing up, Mrs. Bartos' best friend's father and aunt were both affected by retinitis pigmentosa, a blinding disease that first causes night blindness and a loss of peripheral vision and which can lead to complete blindness. Mrs. Bartos' mother is also a long-time employee of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind and instilled in her daughter the importance of supporting the visually impaired community.
Mrs. Bartos is joined in supporting the Foundation Fighting Blindness by reigning Mrs. World, April Lufriu of Tampa Florida. Mrs. Lufriu is a dedicated leader in the Tampa Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness and works tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for blindness research.
