As you know, the mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness is to raise funds for retinal disease research so that one day, we can put an end to blindness.  While our commitment remains strong, we need to realize that our resources are limited.  Because of this, we have decided to consolidate our VisionWalk program and will be discontinuing the Las Vegas VisionWalk.

We know and understand how precious the donations you make and secure are, so we feel a great responsiblity to operate FFB as efficiently as possible and to minimize overhead costs as much as we can.  While FFB is a nonprofit, we try to apply business practices to our cost structure.  What we hope to accomplish is to maximize staff time in areas where we might be able to experience greater growth - therefore raising more funds.  Reducing expenses will help us maximize every dollar raised for research.

Your participation and support are invaluable, and we cannot continue to make the strides we are making without you.  We would like to work with you to continue to raise vital research dollars, but more effectively.  So, while we might not be holding a formalized Walk this year in Las Vegas, we ask that you consider the following:

  • Participate in another VisionWalk:  There are many other walks held in the Western Region that you may want to consider joining.  Please visit www.VisionWalk.org for a list.
  • Create an online fundraising campaign to raise funds:  Reach out to your past supporters and ask them for their continued participation.  Create a fundraising page at www.FightBlindness.org/MyCampaign and share your goal with them (you'll see the setup is very similar to the VisionWalk Participant Center you're used to!).  Ask for their pledge and tell them that instead of coming out for a walk - take the day off and enjoy a movie on the couch!
  • Hold your own walk, or choose another activity as your fundraiser and solicit funds from your supporters:  Begin to fundraise as you would in any other year.  Pick a date, gather your friends and supporters, walk a route on your own, and arrange a picnic or lunch afterwards.  Or you can create your own fundraiser - host a wine tasting, organize a casual jeans day at the office, arrange a cycling outing, or anything else you like to do!

Your fundraising efforts and those from your community are vitally important to FFB.  We are committed to directing as much money towards research as possible, and hope that you will continue to join us in the fight against blindness.  We are available to discuss your fundraising and help direct you to local resources, should you need any.

Thank you so much for your support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, and please don't hesitate to contact us wtih any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,
