We Did It Clip Art

On Saturday, more than 400 walkers including vision-impaired individuals, their families, friends and business colleagues enjoyed our VisionWalk at City Park. It was a beautiful sunny day as we celebrated smashing through our $120,000 goal on our way to raising (we hope) $130,000 by 12/31/16, which is when we will stop tabulating for this year! That would bring our total raised since 2006 to $1.25 million. So please keep sending in those checks and having folks donate on-line to your team at least through the end of October and we’ll keep counting your donations all the way up to 12/31/2016. The top fundraising teams will be announced on November 1 and will receive their Flying Pigs (see more below). Check back often to watch the total climb; we’ll be posting more pictures, too!

Our speakers included our Walk and Silent Auction Chair, Linda Wirth; our Medical Chair, Dr. Robert M. Courtney from Colorado Retina Associates; and our special guest, para-Olympian, Dartanyon Crockett. The great folks from Walmart Vision Centers provided all the breakfast snacks, fruits and goodies; we had some great sub sandwiches for all to enjoy after the walk. Our Silent Auction brought in over $3,300 this year and will help us move closer to our extended goal of $130,000.

2016 Colorado VisionWalk - Richard and Dartanyan

On the night before the Walk,  the Flying Pigs over Santa Fe event was held at the VFW Post #1 Gallery  during their monthly First Friday event. 19 Flying pigs were decorated by local artists and judged by Dave Aguilera, CBS Denver Meteorologist, Deanne Pytlinski, Ph.D. Department Chair, Art Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Ashley Nason, Professor Printmaking Arts also from MSCD. More than 2,100 gallery visitors observed the Flying Pigs and over 500 people voted for their favorite Flying Pig in the People’s Choice award as well. Below are the winners and the artists that designed them.
