My story is simple. I was born with good health and all was well until I was about 8 years old when my sight started to decline. At the time, in the early 1980s, we didn’t know why and it took lots and lots of doctor visits, here and there. Finally, after 5 years of multiple doctor visits, I was diagnosed as having Stargardt disease. I felt very lonely at first and super frustrated and angry! After some time in dealing with it, I worked my issues out and decided to move on and make the best out of it. So, despite my legal blindness, the fact that I can’t drive, which is a real drag here, I am extremely active and try to do as many things as possible! Typically, if I am told that I can’t do something, I will do it, just to prove the person wrong! Yes I am visually impaired but I enjoy my life!
This does not mean I don’t mind being legally blind for the rest of my life! I can only imagine the opportunities if I could see well again! I am not talking 20/20 vision …. I’d be so glad with a 20/100 …. But then the phrase, the sky is the limit, would become so true for me! So I am asking you, my friends, to help Foundation Fighting Blindness find a cure for people like me. Please make a donation and if possible come and walk with us at Hugh Taylor Birch Park on November, 15th. It’s going to be an awesome family day with a bounce house and face painting for children, a breakfast buffet and pizzas at the end when we are done walking.
Even if you are not able to participate in the walk that will take place on November 15th, 2014 at Hugh Taylor Birch Park, in Fort Lauderdale, I hope that you will support our team. Every little bit helps! Thank you for your support.
